Description:

The following item depicts a stipple engraving of John Wilkes (1725-1797) , by Edward Bocquet after an original drawing by Robert Edge Pine, [ca. bef. 1810]. It was published by Sherwood, Neely & Jones. He is staring to the right with his hand raised. The portrait displays Wilkes in a half-length in oval; seated three-quarters to left at a table, wearing a coat with braiding, frilled cravat and cuff, powdered hair brushed back, right hand poised below his chin and looking up to left. This engraving appears similarly to that of Caroline Watson’s print.
