Description:
“The Magna Charta, the pen and paper of statesmanship, and the chain of office are the only recognizable links to John Wilkes here. As John Dann, {former} librarian of the University of Michigan’s William L. Clements library in charge of what is perhaps the largest collection of Wilkes materials in this country, has remarked, there is apparently no portrait of Wilkes that can be taken as a reliable likeness; an accurate portrait of him may not have been made.”
