Description:

The following item, dated June 17, 1782, depicts an etching of John Wilkes by James Sayers and published by Charles Bretheron. In the image Wilkes is standing and looking to the right. His arms hang at his side and he wears a hat, bag-wig, ruffled shirt, and holds a sword sheathed. He also is wearing wrinkled riding- boots. Some of the caricature features remain. His squint is very pronounced, as well as appears toothless and much older than in the earlier caricatures. There is an accompanying exhibition caption that gives details of the creation and a brief history.
