John Wilkes, Esqr.

Description:

“This engraving by Freeman, printed in 1804, seven years after Wilkes’s death, is taken from a portrait painted by John Zoffany in 1779 of Wilkes and his daughter Polly, with whom he lived in his later years. Freeman’s is an unusually softened and flattering interpretation of Wilkes’ physiognomy.”
