Description:
The following item dated circa 1771 depicts a broadside notice for an election of Sheriff between John Wilkes and Frederick Bull. The notice makes people aware of the alderman votes as they stand, with Wilkes in the lead with 1642 and mentions that they will close at 3.
An accompanying caption from an exhibit gives brief history to the piece: “Included in the McClintock collection at the Farley library is a broadside to the citizens of London supporting the election of Wilkes and bull as sheriffs of London in 1771.” This newspaper clipping describes the closing of an election for a position as the sheriff of London, as well as the results, which show Wilkes as well as Fredrick Bull Esq. as the winners.
Along with the exhibit note, the date for the item has been estimated by the year of the election, 1771.
