Description:

The following items depict an original letter from Lord Vere to Thomas Rothley, dated November 16, 1763, and an introductory letter by an unknown creator at an unknown time. In the Vere letter, he writes a cover introduction to an attached resolution of parliament that is against John Wilkes for his Essay on Woman. The introductory letter explains the complaint and resolution, including the context of the date and the cause of the complaint, Wilkes’ Essay on Woman.

Written on the day the resolution was introduced Nov 16 1763 and enclosing copy of the resolution.

{Letter} London 16th Nov[ember] 1763 Lord Vere Relating to an Essay on Woman, written by Wilkes who is shot in a Duel by Mr. Martyn To Thomas Rothley Esqr on College free[torn] Bristol.
