Letter to Dell from John Wilkes
Description:
The following letter dated October 15, 1779, is written by John Wilkes to Dell from Prince's Court. In the letter, Wilkes thanks Dell for his recent letter recounting the events at Shire Hall. He continues on to explain that he has seen some recent opposition pieces published that attempt to determine the coming election. He asks Dell to send on any satirical pieces he may come across and sends his compliments on to the man and his family. In the final lines, Wilkes adds his wife’s compliments on as well.

Dear Dell,
I was greatly obliged by
the favour of your letter, and the entertaining account, which you gave
me of the proceedings at the Shire Hall. By the advertisements since
published in opposition seems determined at the general election, and I
suppose the two parties will soon commence electioneering hostilities
by their angry letters in the papers. If any political squibs fall
into your hands, I shall be glad to peruse them.
We have nothing
interesting, except the account of D’Estaign being further reinforced, as
sailed to New York.
I desire to be affectionately remembered
to your family, and believe me ever,
Dear sir,
your sincere friend, and
humble Servant,
John Wilkes.
Miss Wilkes desires me to add her compliments.
