Description:

The following item depicts a letter, dated March 16, 1829, by Andrew Jackson, the 7th president of the United States, to John Henry Sherburne. In the letter, Jackson is writing to Sherburne to thank him for sharing his latest writing, The Life of J. P. Jones, [John Paul Jones], and states that he is going to read it whenever his business schedule affords him the time. He writes that the merits and experiences of the book’s subject are so well regarded that the book cannot help but be interesting.

Washington City March 16th 1829~~ Sir The life of J. P. Jones which you have so kindly presented to me, is received, and I shall undertake with pleasure the perusal of it as soon as I can obtain a little respite from the business now pressing upon me. The incidents of the life of so meritorious and distinguished a man, cannot fail to be interesting and useful; and the opportunity to become familiar with them is gratefully acknowledged.
