Description:

The following item depicts a letter, dated March 1, 1837, from Martin van Buren, the 8th president of the United States to Benjamin Franklin Butler, a major general of the Union Army, and American politician and lawyer. In the letter, Van Buren is asking to meet in the future with Butler. Butler and Van Buren were professional partners, working together in law.
