Transcription:

Wheatland, near Lancaster 18 October 1852. My dear sir/ I congratulate you most cordially on your election to Congress. I doubt whether you had any friend in the State who felt more anxious for your success than myself. Thank Heaven! you have now triumphed over the malignant faction of professing Democrats by whom you have been so long & so incessantly assailed. I have just returned from Philadelphia & from attending the funeral of my highly valued & faithful friend M. Slengere from Morristown. Our friends in the city all express the warmest satisfaction at your success. The(y) (sic) rejoice, in common with myself that you have at length received justice from the hands of your party. from your friend very respectfully James Buchanan Hon[orable]: H.B. Wright
