Description:
The item depicts an engraving of Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th president of the United States, by an unknown creator at an unknown date. The picture features a bust-length image of Grant, wearing a black overcoat and neck ensemble with a white shirt beneath. His hair is slicked back, grey, with a pocket watch attached to the right side of his breast.
The item has been removed to box 11, American Correspondence, as it contains a letter on the reverse by Harriet Beecher Stowe. The item can be found on the reverse of 11.77. There is a penciled archivist inscription on the bottom of the Grant side that explains the letter on the reverse
