The photograph depicts President Garfield, the 20th president of the United States. The image depicts a bust-length portrait of the man, wearing a black suit and necktie with a white undershirt. He has a beard and short, buzzed hair style. The image is signed by him.
An embossing on the bottom right hand corner of the image denotes that the image was created by Harroun & Bierstadt. The date for the image has been estimated by a comparison with another item digitized on Christie’s website.
