Description:

The following item depicts an autograph from William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States. On the back of the item, there is a handwritten note by Gilbert Stuart McClintock that states this signature of McKinley was given to him about 1899 by general Henry Martyn Hoyt. This identification of McClintock has been made by a comparison with other annotations made by his hand on items in Series I: The McClintock Family Series, such as 1.57. Item 57a-b: Two Photographs of the McClintock Dining Room, Staged for the Centennial Celebration, 1926. (removed to Oversized Box #1). There is another item, 9.68 Item 68, where Hoyt’s daughter has passed on another presidential item to McClintock. The original letter was written to her father, Henry Martyn Hoyt from Rutherford B. Hayes.
