Description:
The following letter, dated August 15, 1897, is written by William Howard Taft, the 27th president of the United States, to Charles Morton Cist. In the letter, Taft is writing to Cist to explain their travel plans so that they may see the interior of a house Cist has prepared for them. Taft states that it is up to his wife but that they intend to be in Cincinnati before the 1st of September, likely the 30th of August.

My dear Cist, I have your letter. It is possible that the arrangement you suggest would please Mrs. Taft but I can not assess until our return. We expect to be in Cincinnati before Sept[ember] 1st probably on Aug[ust]. 30th. Mrs. Taft can then look at the interior of the house, and we can talk more intelligently about it.
