Description:

The following letter dated May 20, 1957, is written by Herbert Clark Hoover, the 31st president of the United States, to Julian Parks Boyd, a prominent professor of history at Princeton. In the letter, Hoover is responding to a letter previous sent by Boyd. He thanks him for some information regarding a book he is writing, and states that he will be looking into the information further once the “skeleton” of the book has been set. Although the materials Hoover specifies within the letter are not described, it is likely that they played a part in the writing of either, “The Ordeal of Woodrow Wilson,” or “An American Epic”, which were published in 1958 and 1959 respectively.

Dear Professor Boyd: That is a most helpful letter -- and documents. As soon as I can get the skeleton of this book in shape, I will hope to put some flesh on it from Princeton. With kind regards, Yours faithfully, Herbert Hoover Dr. Julian P. Boyd The Papers of Thomas Jefferson Princeton University Library Princeton, New Jersey
