Subseries II: Butler Family correspondence, 1779-1815
Subsubseries IV: Butler Family correspondence, 1778-1854 is arranged chronologically and contains correspondence related to the extended Butler family members. The letters within this subseries were written after his death. The majority of items in this subsubseries cover events that relate to personal and familial matters such as vacations, friend’s visiting, and other invitations. There are some more detailed or particular items, such as a petition concerning financial compensation for the widow of Zebulon Butler, Phebe Haight Butler, and their six children, written by State Representative, John Jay.
In this subseries we are able to see correspondence from and in reference to individuals such as John Jay, Phebe Haight Butler, Lydia Huntley Sigourney, Francis Rawn Shunk, and Harrison Wright. However, a majority of the items in this subsubseries were created by or sent to Sarah Anne Hollenback Cist Butler, the wife of Chester Pierce Butler.
