Description:

In this letter written by Zarah Beach, it seems that she is telling Zebulon Butler to reject some settlers who are coming and instead accept her nephew and his company.

Transcription:

Amenia 21th Sept 1785 Dear Sir, I had the pleasure to see yours to Doct’r Harrietta this day: rejoice I have an opportunity to write to you once more-and that you are all in peace and have plenty of the Necessaries of Life. I don’t think best for you to have much dependence on peoples coming from this quarter to take the half sharse believe you had best to dispose of them as fast as possible-don’t let any return into the hands of the Company-we are doing Every thing in our power in this quarter. This will be delivered you by John Coon, a Nephew of mine whose desire is to settle in the country-he has kept at school some- well he wish to be employed this Winter in that Business-any friendship you are pleased to show him will be acknowledged by me with many thanks. Doctor Asher Waterman will be Conn’s Company-who has the Charictor [sic] of a gentleman-he will remain in your settlement or go to any part of Pennsylvania as a Practioner & keep up a corrispondence [sic] & informe of Every movement of the Enemy that he can obtain the knowledge of.
