Description:

This letter, dated July 21, 1787, is written by Jonathan Heart, a Major with the 2d United States Infantry, to Zebulon Butler, a lieutenant colonel during the American Revolutionary War. In the letter, Hart updates Butler about a package he is sending out, that he asks him to bring to Mr. Mead with the utmost speed and care. He continues on to write that he has heard detailed accounts of the Susquehanna claimants living within the valley, and states that he believes it is likely to be settled soon. He also suggests that Butler connect with Mr. Mead to learn more about his current whereabouts and influence to the matter, as he has been stationed along the Ohio, likely river, until recently and cannot fully update him within the space of this letter.
