Description:

The following item depicts a copy by Zebulon Butler of a letter written originally by an unknown author to General William Montgomery, dated October 25, 1794. In the letter, the creator is writing to Montgomery to arrange a meeting with him, as well as Colonels Johnson, Bowman, and Bellias. They write that there have been orders for the two of them to meet at contested lands for a case between Bowman and Bellias, but the writer would not like to go there on his own. He requests Montgomery to write him with information on his planned travels and mentions that he has the expectation of arriving on Wednesday during the day at some time. The page is torn and damaged by water, making sections difficult to read, however, there is a note at the bottom of the page that there is a cost exceeding £100 on this case or account. On the reverse of the manuscript, there are two accounts that have been badly damaged and cannot be read in full. They seem to stipulate costs of room and travel on the same account, coming to a total of 12 pounds and 50 shillings. The creator of the copy has been ascertained as Zebulone Butler from a comparison of handwriting with other copies in the collection, such as item (12.102, 103, and 104)
