Description:
The following item depicts a letter written by Timothy Pickering to Matthias Hollenback, dated March 9, 1796. In the letter, Pickering writes that requesting information on a right of land he has previously sold to Mr. Ross. He asks Hollenback to assure him through Zebulon Butler, in position of prothonotary, that there are no current suits of ejectment on the lands in question. He mentions further that he has livestock and utensils on the property that are going to be sold and requests Hollenback’s advice on the best ways to secure his payment.
Utensils in this case likely refers to agricultural tools or livestock materials.

Sir
I wrote you some time ago desiring you to
obtain from Mr. Butler, the prothonotary, a certificate
that Wallis nor any other had entered
suits of ejectment against us for the land
disrupted between him and us, but have rec.d [recieved]
no answer.
You must know that I have sold my land
at Wilkesbarre (sic) to Mr. Ross. I have livestock and
utensils which will now be to be sold. In what
way would you recommend the Sales to be made?
in order to have the pay Secure and get the
best prices? Your advice will oblige
your friend & h’ble [humble] serv[an]t
