Description:
A Confederate States of America two dollar bill. This bill was issued in February of 1864.This note has a red background and the amount of two dollars stated 5 times. On the far right side of the bill there is a portrait of Judah Benjamin. Judah Benjamin was the first Jewish United States cabinet member who did not leave the religion. He worked as a lawyer and was a pro-slavery advocate. Benjamin was a Louisnia state senator until 1861 when he joined the Confederacy. He served in many important positions in the Confederacy including Attorney General, Secretary of War, and Secretary of State. When they lost the war Benjamin fled to England where he practiced law. This bill is marked with a pencil with 212.
