Description:
A record of Miners’ Savings Bank shares purchased by Andrew T. McClintock. This check is for the amount of twelve hundred and fifty dollars made out to the bank from McClintock. This was the first installment of a series of checks he would pay for his fifty shares with Miners’ Bank. They processed this payment on June 29. 1869 but there is a stamp in the top left hand corner, one from the post office, one from the Bank of Wilkes-Barre dated June 27,1868. Andrew T. McClintock was a Wilkes-Barre attorney who was a corporator of this bank. His home was later donated to Wilkes University and was used as a dorm called McClintock Hall, but has since returned to a private residence. This check was signed by W. G. Sterling.Walter G. Sterling, a local businessman,was a corporator at the bank. His house was donated to Wilkes University in 1949 and converted into dorms.There is a handwritten note on the back of this check giving a description of it.
