Description:

The letter is authored by British caricaturist and book illustrator, George Cruikshank, to British novelist and officer in the Royal Navy, Frederick Marryat, written on July 16, 1835, regards presenting a friend’s work for possible publication in the Metropolitan Magazine. F. Marryat was a current editor of the magazine. The letter also contains a paper company embossing near the top left-hand corner of the paper, legible is London Superfine.

[Address/ letter comparisons] July 16 1835 Dear Marryat I am requested by a friend of mine (who is now on the continent) to forward the accompanying m[e]s[sage]. to you presuming it might suit the page of the “Metropolitan” and in case it should require alteration he gives full permission to the “Editor” to cut & trim it as much as he pleases.
