Description:
The letter is authored on January 16, 1781, by British colonial administrator Warren Hastings to Scottish adventurer and diplomat, George Bogle. Hastings is speaking about the creation of a Committee of Revenue within Calcutta, and is offering Bogle a position on.

Fort William 16 Jan 1781
Dear Bogle,
It is determined to dissolve approval Councils & to appoint a Committee of Revenue in Calcutta to which will have an immediate charge of all the Comm[ittee] Approvals. This Comm[ittee].: will consist of Andreas(?), Crofter(?) & yourself, perhaps a fourth will be added. If you are pleased with your App[ointmen]t. to it come immediately to Calcutta. If you are not, stay where you are, & I will nominate another; but I s[houl]’d be sorry to lose you.
