Description:

The letter is authored on an unknown date by British clergyman, novelist and historian, Charles Kingsley, to an unknown recipient named, “my dear lord,” accepting an invitation to the [Buckingham] Palace. In 1842, while Kingsley was curate of the Eversley Rectory, when Sir John Cope, Lord of the Manor of Bramshill at the time, chose Kingsley as his rector. He would later, in 1859, preach on Palm Sunday for Queen Victoria and the Prince Consort within Buckingham Palace, for the first time. Shortly following this sermon, he was appointed a chaplain in ordinary to Queen Victoria. A detailed biography of Charles Kingsley can be found at Archive Internet's Digital Library.
