Description:

The letter is authored on October 4, 1896 by French writer of Occitan literature and lexicographer of the Provençal form of the language, Frederic Mistral, to unknown recipients named “Monsieur et Madame Janvier”. In the letter, he is inviting Mr. and Mrs. Janvier to lunch on October 6th. Later in the letter, he thanks the receiver for a translation priorly performed. The summer of Saint Michael is possibly related to the festival, Michaelmas, which is celebrated on September 29. The letter is dated a few days after this celebration.

Maillame 4 Oct. 1896 je prie Monsieur et Madame Janvier de venie déjeuner avec moi, samedi 6 octobre. esperons que l’été de Saint-Michel nous réservra pour ce jour-là eu(?) clair et gai soleil-et merci pour la traduction de la lettre de St Francisco Bien cordialement F. Mistral

Translation Attempt: 4. Oct 1896 I pray Mr. and Mrs. Janvier come and have lunch with me, Saturday the 6th of October. We hope that the summer of Saint Michael [will] reserve us [a] day of clear and cheerful sun. –and thank you for the translation of the of St/Sir Francisco. Best regards, F. Mistral
