Description:
A bookplate belonging to Charles Dexter Allen. It’s from a compilation of bookplates titled Norsk Boksamling Ex-Libris by Anton Aure. The text is surrounded by flower vines and has a book at the top. Anton Magnus Aure, the creator of the bookplate, was born on January 15, 1884 in Fraena, Norway. In 1911, he married Hallgerd Malfrid Rosok, who died in 1913. Five years later, he married Marta Johanne Aadana. In 1911, he became a teacher and collected books on the side. In 1919, he became a government scholar. Charles Dexter Allen was a bookplate collector born in 1865 and lived in Windsor Locks Connecticut until he died in 1926. He was a member of the Grolier Club from 1894 to 1907 and an active member of the Stowaways Club. He was an editor of the Hartford Post from 1895 to 1897 and Editor of the In Lantern Land in 1898. He’s also been listed as a notable writer and editor for Marquis Who’s Who. He was a writer and artist and was interested in artists' prints, books, and drawings. He’s written many books including “The Bookplates of William Fowler Hopson.”
