Title:
Ex Libris Roland G. Curtin, M.D.
Description:
A bookplate for Roland G. Curtin. The bookplate features a dog lying beside a pile of books. There is a harp near the top of the page. Bookplate collector, Roland Gideon Curtin was born on October 29, 1839 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. He earned an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1866 and lived at Philadelphia Hospital. He was an “assistant U.S. Geologist and helped F.V. Hayden to the Rocky Mountain district. In 1869, he came back to Philadelphia to be a doctor. “He held many professional appointments and was associated with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Howard Hospital, the Lying in Charity, the Maternity Hospital, Philadelphia Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital, and Rush Hospital for Contagious Diseases.” In 1871, he earned his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. He died from Cardiovascular disease on March 14, 1913. Curtin appears to have been an avid bookplate collector as he wrote a book in 1910 titled, THE BOOK-PLATES OF PHYSICIANS, WITH REMARKS ON THE PHYSICIAN'S LEISURE-HOUR "HOBBIES.
