Title:
Ex Libris Henri Daragon
Description:
A bookplate featuring the silhouette of a castle in the background with what appears to be Napoleon on a horse with a woman holding fingers to her lips as if she’s trying to remind the viewer to be quiet. Albert Robida was born on May 14, 1848 in Compiegne, France. He was “an illustrator, etcher, lithographer, caricaturist, and novelist.” He had a magazine called La Caricature for 12 years. He also had a series of novels throughout the 1880s. Through the 1900s he made 520 drawings for “Pierre Giffard’s weekly serial La Guerre Infernale.” The school Ecole primare Albert Robia in Compiegne is named after him. Henri Daragon was a well known French collector of ex-libris bookplates.
