Title:

Alexander James Dallas Dixon

Description:

A bookplate with four names and two family crests clashing against one another. Under the two crests, there are banners that read “Lux Venit AB Alto” and “Fortes Fortuna Juvat.” These translate to “Light comes from high” and “Fortune helps the strong” respectively. The bookplate collector Alexander James Dallas Dixon was born on October 4, 1850 in Pennsylvania. His parents were Fitz Eugene Dixon and Catherine “Chew” Dallas Dixon. His brother was Thomas Fraser Dixon. His wife was Margaretta Watmough (Sargent) Dixon. He died on January 9, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
