In Memoriam Charles Ewing Green Obiit.

Description:

A bookplate depicting a family crest and an obituary. The crest has lions on it and is surrounded by a wreath. Bookplate collector Charles Ewing Green was born October 9, 1840 in Trenton, New Jersey. He was really popular in Trenton and when he died of indigestion, it was unexpected. He was the leader of the Princeton Theological Society. His dad, Henry W. Green was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for 7 years. He went to Princeton University and graduated in 1860. “He studied law with his Uncle, and Judge Edward W. Scudder.” He became an attorney in 1863, and a counselor in 1867. “For several years, he was the state’s chancery reporter and president of the board of Trustees John C. Green foundation school and the First Presbyterian Church, vice president and director of the Trenton savings fund society, director of the Trenton banking company, the Mercer hospital and chairman of the permanent committee of the Free Library project.” His mother was Susan Mary Ewing Green and his father was Henry Woodhull Green. He had six siblings, Frances Armstrong Green, John Livingstone Green, Ellen Green, Howard Malcom Green, Henry Milner Green, and Eleanor Graeme Green. He had one half-sibling, Emily Agusta Green. He was married to Mary Livingston Green and they had four children, Helen Griswold Green, Henry Woodhull Green, John Cleve Green, and Susanne Livingston Green Lloyd. He died on December 23, 1897 and was buried at Riverview Cemetery in Trenton, New Jersey.
