From the library of Samuel Miller, D.D., LL.D. In memory of Judge Samuel Miller Breckinridge, LL.D’50. Presented by Samuel Miller Breckinridge Long, ‘03 Library of Princeton University” Judge and Bookplate Collector Samuel Beckinridge Miller was born on November 3, 1828 in Baltimore, Maryland. His parents were John Beckinridge and Margaret (Miller) Beckinridge. His siblings were Elizabeth Miller Beckinridge, Mary Cabell Preston (Beckinridge) Porter, Margaret Elizabeth Breckinridge, and Agatha Marshall Breckenridge. His wife was Virginia Harrison (Castleman) Breckenridge. He had eight kids. His family were members of the Kentucky Brigades and he was the cousin of Vice President John Cabell Breckinridge. He went to College at the College of New Jersey and Transylvania University Law School in Kentucky. He started his work in law in St. Louis Missouri. Diplomat, Politician, and Bookplate collector Samuel Miller Breckinridge Long was born on May 16, 1881 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was an American diplomat and politician who served under Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Long is noted by Holocaust Historians for making it difficult for European Jews to enter the United States during the 30s and 40s. He graduated from Princeton University in 1904, and started going to Washington University School of Law for a year, and received his M.A. from Princeton in 1909.
