Description:
A bookplate for Jessie Thomas Sturdevant. The bookplate features an image of a river with mountains and a castle in the background. There are two trees in the foreground. There is decoration around the image. Art teacher, and WWI and WWII veteran Clarence Valentine Kirby was born on July 19, 1875 in Canajoharie, New York. His parents were Frank and Frances (Devendorf) Kirby. He graduated from Canajoharie High School in 1893. He was an art teacher in Denver, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg. He took a break from teaching because he fought in World War I, but resumed teaching afterward. “He died in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania on September 27, 1947.” Jessie Thomas Sturdevant was born on October 7, 1877 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Her mother was Mary Letita Thomas Sturdevant and her father was William Henry Strudevant. She had one brother named Thomas Kirkbride Strudevant. She died on May 13, 1951 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
