Description:
A bookplate for a man and a woman. On the bookplate, there are two pillars with grails on top and birds flying around them. On the left, there is a man in the bushes, and on the right there is a person standing below the pillar. In the background there is a large building with trees surrounding it. The bookplate collector William Windus Knight was born on February 10, 1878 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was married to Edna Ford Knight, whose father was Edward Ford. Knight’s family is still involved in charitable deeds including “The Toledo Hospital, UT’s Stranahan Arboretum, Wood County’s W.W. Knight Nature Preserve, and the Hospice of Northwest Ohio.” He was a banker and big-time charity donor, being really involved in his community. In 1961, he became the director of Owens. His father-in-law was Edward Ford, who started Rossford, Ohio and the Edward Ford Plate Glass Company which eventually became Libby-Owens-Ford after he became partners with Edward Drummond Libbey and Michael Owens. His parents were Milton Knight and Marina Windus Knight. His siblings were Martha Louisa Knight and Meta Knight Moore. He was married to Edna Sage Ford Knight. He had five children, William Windus Knight Jr, Milton Knight, Edward Ford Knight, Samuel Bradford Knight, and Elizabeth Knight McIntosh. He died on September 29, 1968 in Perrysburg, Ohio. Bookplate collector Edna Ford Knight was born on September 23, 1879 in New Albany, Indiana. Her mother was Caroline Ross Ford and her father was Edward Ford. She had two siblings, Laura Blaine Ford MacNichol and George Ross Ford, and one half-sibling, John Battice Ford. She had five children, William Windus Knight Jr, Milton Knight, Edward Ford Knight, Samuel Bradford Knight, and Elizabeth Knight McIntosh. She died on May 11, 1950 in Perrysburg, Ohio. Bookplate creator William Edgar Fisher was born in Wellsville, N.Y. on October 24, 1872. He attended Phillips, Andover Academy, and Cornell University. He was a well known artist, advertiser, and bookplate designer and was a former president of the American Book Plate Society. He became an art editor of Judge magazine during the early 1920s. Additionally, Fisher was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Society of Colonial Wars. He was also a member of the Players of New York City. He died at the age of 84 in 1956.
