Title:
Ex Libris Willowwood Farm
Description:
A bookplate for Willowwood Farm. There is a ring of plants surrounding the text “Ex Libris Willowwood Farm, Gladstone, NJ.” Willowwood Farm, now known as Willowwood Arboretum is an Arboretum located in Chester Township, New Jersey. The farm was originally named Paradise Farm before being bought by amateur arborist brothers, Henry and Robert Tubbs in 1908. The brothers changed the name to “Willowwood Arboretum” after the natural collection of willow trees that existed in the area. They expanded the farmhouse which dates back to 1792 and turned it into their family home. According to their website it is “New Jersey’s most comprehensive and longest continually operating Arboretum.” The brothers gradually collected and grew many plant specimens, including a large collection of many exotic and rare plant species due to the popular New York horticulture scene. The property was eventually run by Rutgers University as a plant and tree research facility, which eventually became part of the Morris County Park system in 1980.
