Description:
This letter is about an advertisement being put into the “Luzerne Federalist” for the duration of December 1802-May 26, 1804 and the payment for the insertion of the ad $4.75. The advertisement was about a parcel of land which was previously owned by Charles Carrol, at the time one of the last surviving who signed the Declaration of Independence, being up for sale. Carrol’s attorney Richard Caton married into the Carrol family, marrying his daughter Mary “Polly” Carrol. Both the Carrol and Caton family were heavily involved in American politics. Will be sold in Wilkes Barre. The 18th day of May next, at the house of Judge fell, the sale to take place at ten o’clock in the forenoon, about 8,000 acres of LAND- lying in Luzerne county , between the waters of Towandee and Sugar Creek, located in the name of Charles Carrol, by warrants number 1499-1500-1501-1502-1503-1504- 1498-1505- Also 4663-4 acres of LAND, lying north of Sugar Creek being part of the Warrant number 1496– the legal title of said Land is in Charles Carrol, who means to dispose of theme to raise a sum of money due to him by James Wilson deceased.
