Description:
This is an envelope from James Church to Thomas A[llibone] Janvier on March 5, 1889. The envelope most likely contained a letter and it to be delivered in New York City. Church was born in 1869 in Michigan. He received his Ph. D. from the University of Munich and taught latin, german, and fine arts at the University of Nevada. Church is well known for developing the first instrument to measure snow water content. Janvier was born in Pennsylvania in 1849 and was a historian and story-writer. He spent much of his life traveling, gaining information for his literary work.
