Description:

This is a letter from Edward Everett to Mrs. H. A. Peirce on October 14, 1861. In this letter, Everett asks Peirce if he can give a speech on Wednesday at the music hall. During the time this letter was written and the year to follow, Everett was touring the Northern states lecturing on the causes of the war. He also wrote on behalf of the Union cause for the New York Ledger. The creator of this letter, Edward Everett, was born in Massachusetts in 1794. Everett was an unitarian pastor, politician, diplomat, educator, and orator. He studied at Havard and served in both chambers of congress and was U.S. secretary of state.

Summer Street 14 Oct. 1861. My dear Mrs. Peirce, Thinking it possible that you & Mr. Peirce might like to hear my address on Wednesday I enclose two tickets for the floor of the Music Hall. Ever sincerely yours, Edward Everett. Mrs. H. A. Peirce.
