Description:

This is a letter from Return Jonathan Meigs to the postmaster on December 26, 1817. The letter is about aiding in performing specific duties related to stamps, required by the Commissioner of Revenue. The author of this letter, Return Meigs, was born in Connecticut in 1740. Meigs was a colonel in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, and was one of the settlers of the Northwest Territory.
