Description:

This is a letter from Silas Mitchell to Mrs. MacCord on October 6. During this letter Mitchell is denying wanting to lecture in England. The creator of this letter, Silas Mitchell, was born in Pennsylvania in 1829. Mitchell was considered the father of medical neurology. Beginning his career, Mitchell studied at the University of Pennsylvania and Jefferson Medical College; he served during the Civil War as the director at a hospital. Mitchell also wrote historical and literary novels. His novels placed him among the top of American authors towards the end of the nineteenth century. Although the letter has no date, other collections on Mitchell note that he lectured on nursing. The unnamed Mrs. MacCord is likely asking Mitchell to lecture because of his popularity through both his medical discoveries and literary pursuits.
