Description:
This is a letter from Silas Mitchell to someone unknown, with no date. Within the letter, Mitchell discusses placing letters about autographs in the trash. However, Mitchell notes that he will give his signature of Hugh Wynne, which is a title of one of Mitchell’s novels. Ironically, Mitchell’s disdain about autographs does not line up with his own autograph collection he kept. Mitchell concludes the letter telling the unnamed “my dear boy” that his address is now in Bar Harbor, Maine.

My Dear Boy-
There are few things I would not gladly do for Dana -and what you ask is a small matter- usually I put the letters of autograph collections in the waste paper basket. In the course of a year- I could readily fill such a receptacle- so that it becomes really needful thus cruelly dispose of claimant and for a signature- But now, and this time, you at least are welcome to the signature of Hugh Wynne
