Description:

This is a letter from Robert Morris to John Nicholson on December 15, 1797. The letter is about what is happening along the Pennsylvania frontier near the Schuylkill river. The author of this letter, Robert Morris, was born in Liverpool in 1734. After migrating to the U.S. he worked at a successful shipping firm in Philadelphia. Morris would eventually be one of the signatures of the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and the Articles of Confederation.

No 1. Hills Dec 15. 1797 Dear Sir, This is the day pregnant with our Fate, it opened here with appearance again of C. Tunis & Co[mpany]. I sent the gardener who chased them off. W[illia]m & James seem to think they have been lurking about all night, having discovered their Fore among the task on Schuylkill side. They seem determined- and so am I. I do not fear them, but I do J. Baker because I respect him & I swear by all that is sacred he never shall suffer one cant by Bob Morris John Nicholson Esq
