Description:

This is a drafted document regarding women’s rights by Lucretia Mott on November 1, 1864. This document stresses equality in a marriage, regarding the independence and obligations of the couple. The creator of this document, Lucretia Mott, was born in Massachusetts in 1793. Mott was a social reformer, women’s rights activist, abolitionist, and a Quaker. She would advocate for Black suffrage and help found two colleges.

Transcription:

“Womans Rights” When physical, intellectual and moral education shall be understood and practiced, then, in the marriage relation, the independence of the husband and wife shall be equal, their dependence mutual, and their obligations reciprocal. Lucretia Mott 1 Nov 1864
