Description:
This is a letter from David Rittenhouse Porter to someone who is unknown on April 29, 1842. The letter is the update for an inquiry from a previous letter. In this letter, Porter mentions that he has interviewed the treasurer regarding the previous request regarding some action of the Towanda Bank. Porter states that the treasure has decided to take the regular issues of the bank and establish a circular to make the public aware of them. He concludes the letter by referring the recipient to the circular for more detail.
The creator of this letter, David Porter, was born in Pennsylvania in 1788. Porter was a member of the House of Representatives, the senate, and was the ninth governor of Pennsylvania. At the time of this letter, Porter was serving as governor of the state. At his inaugural address in 1842, Porter notes that Pennsylvania was facing financial difficulties that he would aim to address during his second term in office. Most specifically, Porter advocated for different real estate and higher property taxes to alleviate the difficulties.
