Description:
This is a letter from William Sprague to someone unknown on December 3, 1853. During this letter Sprague is thanking the recipient for sending him very important valuable German autographs which he would probably add to his collection. The creator of this letter, William Sprague, was born in Connecticut in 1795. Sprague would become the first person to gather a complete set of the autographs of the signers of the United States Declaration of Independence. He also started a collection of signatures of all of the members of the Convention which framed the Constitution, and a collection of the signatures of U.S. presidents.

Albany 3 Dec. 1853.
Dear Sir,
I thank you for the valuable German autographs you sent me two or three weeks since, and but for a purpose of engagements that has been perfectly overwhelming I should have acknowledged them sooner. After making as thorough a search as I can among my papers, I have been able to find rarely those which I herewith enclose: I thought I had several more of. Those on your list but if so I cannot lay my hands upon these. Those that I send are good specimens, and I hope may prove acceptable to you.
Very sincerely yours,
W. B. Sprague.
