Description:

This is an envelope from Edmund Stedman to Thomas Allibone Janvier on an unknown date. This envelope was on its way to New York and it more than likely contained a letter with information. The creator of the envelope, Edmund Stedman, was born in Connecticut in 1833. Stedman studied at Yale University where he received his Master of Arts degree. He would go on to become a journalist, essayist, poet, scientist, banker, and critic. The recipient of this letter, Thomas Janvier, was born in Philadelphia and was a story writer and historian. Janvier spent time in New York, New Mexico, Mexico, and Colorado where he would find much of his inspiration for his writings.
