The first letter is from Charles Vanwyck to Schuyler Colfax July 4, 1868. The letter requests that Street be taken on a trip to the West. The recipient of the first letter is Schuyler Colfax, who is most famously known for being the 17th Vice President of the United States. At the time of this letter, Colfax was running for vice president. Van Wyck writing to Colfax for his trip is likely related to his campaign.
