Transcription:

Philad[elphia] Dec 18th 1806. Dear Sir, Along with this you will receive the curious literary relict of which we spoke yesterday, and which was presented to me, a few weeks ago, by Mr. Samuel F. Bradford, bookseller of this city. From every internal evidence it appears to be “The first seven. Proof sheets of Mr. Pope’s Works, containing the author’s written corrections.” Mr. Bradford cannot, at this time, recal[sic, recall] to recollection when or from whom he received it, or by what circumstances it came into his provision; it is therefore, with his approbation, deposited in your Museum, as a place of safety; where it will afford more general gratification than if confined to the cabinet of any private individual, and from whence should circumstances hereafter under it necessary, it may be reclaimed. Happy in being the means of contributing anything to your already magnificent collection, I offer you the assurances of my affectionate esteem. Mr. Charles W. Peale Mr. Wilson
