Description:
A cutout from a letter that was possibly written by a Miss Kemble, identified as Lilian Kemble.
Lilian Kemble was born in 1900 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was an American actress, both in silent films and on stage. She was a German immigrant who first appeared in comedy and theatre work at the age of 10. It was in Denver that Kemble made her American debut. She would go on to be on Broadway, starring in George Broadhurst's 1906 original The Man of the Hour. For two seasons, after Kemble moved on to Boston, she starred as the leading lady with Castle Square Theatre. In addition to the stage, she frequently performed in silent films, one of which her chief supporting role was in the film, The House of Mirrors, in 1916, alongside Frank Mills. She married a costar in 1898, Will S. Rising, with whom she later divorced.
Kemble’s identity has been ascertained by a comparison with another autograph in the collection, item 12.03.
The date for the item has been estimated according to the life dates of Kemble.
