The Luzerne Legal Register was founded in 1872, as an official law journal that reported on the decisions of the county’s Court of Common Pleas. In its original mission, the publication stated that it wanted to publish all information and legal news of the county for its citizens, and report on all the judicial proceedings of the court. This news includes news on the “bar and judicial opinions containing incorporations, change of names, fictitious name filing notices, tax sales, sheriff sales, and other legal advertising required by statute” (Luzerne County).
